While New Jersey has more good breweries than some people realize, the IPA so popular everywhere else has been, so far, woefully lacking in the Garden State: Ocean, NJ’s Kane Brewing Co. may just help spread the hops gospel with Head High, a West Coast style IPA with loads of juicy, citrusy late addition hops. Almost all the big C’s are represented—Chinook, Cascade, Centennial, Citra and Columbus—and give the brew floral characteristics and explosive tropical fruit tastes. Even better, a bready, pilsner-like malt bill softens this beer on your palate, letting this one stand out from the crowd. As Kane expands, this one will get popular, but for the moment try this well kept secret at The Pour House Westmont.

We love beer. That's why we're devoting an entire year to discovering (and drinking) cold ones from near and far. Know of a beer worth shouting out? Send us a note at tips@philadelphiaweekly.com.
