When the international beer goliath In-Bev (owners of Budweiser) bought Chicago’s Goose Island a little over two years ago, a lot of beer enthusiasts worried the corporate giant would begin to mass produce GI’s once excellent beers and chip away quality. While the company’s core beers have been brewed on a larger scale since, the Bourbon County line has continued to be done in small batches (and it shows). Long a legend in the craft community, it continues to earn the accolades. Intense dark chocolate, coffee and alcohol aromas hit your nose and a motor-oil thick brew hits your tongue. Then, you’re nearly overwhelmed with charred cocoa, oak, bold vanilla, rich dark chocolate, a touch of tobacco and plenty of bourbon burn. This is an experience and stiill one of the world’s best beers. It’s available for a limited time at several locations including Local 44, Kraftwork, Bierstube and Falls Taproom.
