When Firestone Walker creates its epic anniversary beers, the brewer blends an array of massive beers aged in a variety of spirits barrels. Traditionally, these were unavailable for sale individually, but now a handful of them are released in limited quantities each year. Sucaba, formerly Abacus—see what they did there?—is one of them. This gargantuan barleywine ale is aged for up to a year in bourbon barrels. Stunning notes of roasted coconut, vanilla, soft chocolate and charred figs compete with oak, bourbon and alcohol heat to make for a heady brew you’ve got to sip to appreciate. They don’t get much more imposing, complex, and delicious than this. Try it during a special Black Friday tasting tonight at Capone’s.
