We love beer. That's why we're devoting an entire year to discovering (and drinking) cold ones from near and far. Know of a beer worth shouting out? Send us a note at tips@philadelphiaweekly.com.

If you’re into the idea of being punished by your beer, your masochistic side finds a willing accomplice in Stone Brewing Company’s Crime under the Lucky Bastard ale umbrella. Crime starts its life cycle, naturally, as Lucky Bastard ale, aged in bourbon barrels. Then, the brewer adds loads of chili peppers to the beer (so many you can smell them from across the table). The sip begins with rich chili pepper flavor—almost all else about the beer is overwhelmed by it—and ends with a pleasantly intense pepper heat. The heat intensifies with the second sip and elevates with each successive sip. Yet, thanks to being matched to a quality base beer, all this peppery sadism somehow works. If heat is your thing, seek this out—this isn’t just a beer, it’s an experience. Crime hits shelves and taps in the coming weeks.
