We love beer. That's why we're devoting an entire year to discovering (and drinking) cold ones from near and far. Know of a beer worth shouting out? Send us a note at tips@philadelphiaweekly.com.

The witbier, popularized by Hoegaarden, Blue Moon and Allagash White, is a beer style perfect for summer drinking. With plenty of flavor yet drinking easy, they are also one of the best gateway beers out there. Avery’s White Rascal is a nice Americanized version of the Belgian white. The usual aromas of banana and orange peel are enhanced with citrusy hops, while the flavor showcases brisk coriander and touches of black pepper. Zesty and bright, the beer finishes with a dry snap that would be at home in a crisp IPA, only without the bitterness. The faintest touch of orange sweetness rounds things out. Avery may be adept at doing huge beers, but White Rascal proves they can do a damn fine every day drinker, too. Try it at Side Car.
