Welcome to PW's 50-Beer Countdown to Philly Beer Week! Every day from now through the Opening Tap ceremonies on May 31, we'll be getting in the mood by spotlighting a different great craft brew that's been poured by one or more Philly Beer Week participating venues.
Some beers are more than mere beer—they are an event. When Harrisburg’s own Tröegs releases Nugget Nectar each year, it’s exactly that. People go gaga over the stuff, and it’s not hard to see why. Amber ales are generally a style of beer that no one dislikes drinking but few actively seek out. But Tröegs jacks up the ABV to 7.5 percent and throws loads of bold, aggressive hops at it until we can’t help but notice how sexy this beer really is. It’s the beer equivalent of taking off the glasses, putting on a slinky dress, and being accompanied by a bitchin’ soundtrack. It’s a ridiculous movie cliché, but this beer is a damned good movie cliché! Tröegs Nugget Nectar is sometimes available at The Bishop’s Collar, Local 44, Interstate Draft House, Kildare’s Irish Pub, Growlers, and many other locations.
