Welcome to PW's 50-Beer Countdown to Philly Beer Week! Every day from now through the Opening Tap ceremonies on May 31, we'll be getting in the mood by spotlighting a different great craft brew that's been poured by one or more Philly Beer Week participating venues.
If Yuengling Lager is a legend in the Northeast, Shiner Bock is equally a legend in Texas and the surrounding states. It’s pretty much THE go-to beer for budget-conscious beer drinkers who care about their swill. Hell, way back in 1994, this author remembers being stunned at the cult surrounding this beer in the Austin area. And, like Yuengling, Shiner earns it. It’s dark and smooth like a chocolate Samuel Adams, but easier drinking than you’d expect from the description. And now, just in time for Philly Beer Week, it’s going to be available for the first time in Philadelphia. Considering Pennsylvania’s embarrassment of riches when it comes to beer, that may not seem like a big deal, but it’s a landmark all the same. Shiner Bock will be available at Percy Street, City Tap House, Interstate Draft House, El Camino Real, The Twisted Tail, and Moriarty’s.
