We love beer. That's why we're devoting an entire year to discovering (and drinking) cold ones from near and far. Know of a beer worth shouting out? Send us a note at email@example.com.
Chances are, you know about this one; this beer’s reputation precedes it. Each summer when pumpkin beer season rolls around, there are a few brews that everyone seems to scramble for. Almost no beer causes a greater scramble than Southern Tier’s Pumking, a massive overload of taste that is the very definition of “love it or hate it.” This clear orange beer pours with very little head, but the aroma is imposing all the same, with vanilla, pumpkin, and pumpkin spices. The taste is full of sweetness—hefty malts, sweet vanilla, hazelnuts, and a big explosion of spices (cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and others) that only get out of the way for the warming alcohol in the finish. None of this is subdued or subtle. It’s big, loud and in your face. See if you can handle it at a dozen locations around the city, including Lucky’s Last Chance, Fox and Hound, The Corner Foodery and others.
