Favorite beer: Hop Sun Summer Wheat, just on the menu at Jamonera. Perfect balance between crisp and refreshing, with light hop.

Favorite beer: I have two favorite beers, and they reside at opposite ends of the spectrum. Favorite budget beer: Miller High Life. It’s cheap as crap but doesn’t taste like crap. Calling it champagne is a stretch but it’s better than any other $2 beer and most $5 beers too. Favorite non-budget beer: Boddington’s. It’s creamy! It’s smooth! It’s nice and mild and goes down easy. I also like that the can is yellow and nicely designed.
Favorite place to drink: It’s hard for me to choose a favorite bar—I have a couple. I love Bob and Barbara’s because they have table tennis, live jazz, and crazy, crazy people. I love Fergie’s because it has good bbq, a chill vibe, and Fergie, Philly’s Irish Patron Saint of the arts. I like North Bowl because their mac and cheese is killer and I love the background noise of strikes being thrown. Also, all three of those bars are relatively inexpensive. My biggest gripe with Philly right now are all these gastropubs popping up. The word “gastropub” is so pretentious—it’s just a scam to make you pay $10 for a hamburger and $8 for a cocktail.

Favorite beer: It’s tough to narrow down to one, but as far as locals go, the seasonal 22-ouncers that Philadelphia Brewing Company has been putting out the last few winters have been really impressive. Particularly, the Shackamaximum Imperial Stout, which stands up to some of the limited-release stouts that hardcore beer nuts wait in lines for at 2 in the morning.
Favorite place to drink: One of my favorite places for a pint is City Tap House in University City. They have the largest tap list around, so you won’t have a problem finding something you’ve never had before or building an awesome flight.

Favorite beer: I’m more of a Ciroc vodka and ace of spade bottle popper, but I love beer, too. My fav is Corona.
Favorite place to drink: My fav spot to drink at is in my home in front of my 80-inch TV. If not there, then I’m in the ’hood at Steve’s on 53rd and Market.

Favorite beer: My current favorite is Great Lakes Commodore Perry. It’s their IPA. I’m usually a bit iffy on IPAs, as the hoppier they get, the more they make me feel like my face is going to cave in. But the Commodore Perry is a really mild IPA; you can actually taste the beer, and not just the hops.
Favorite place to drink: Eulogy. The selection is really great, their food is delicious, and their staff isn’t overly snobbish. (Some of them are even a little friendly!) Plus, I’m inexorably drawn to anything even remotely related with death, so, you know, that’s a check in their favor as well.

Favorite beer: I do not have a favorite beer. I haven’t met one I didn’t like. I do enjoy a nice cold draught of Kenzinger or a bottle of Rolling Rock just to name a couple.
Favorite place to drink: One of my favorites is Mick-Daniels Saloon Second and Snyder because it has great wings and I can walk home!

Favorite beer: Locally, I love Dock Street’s and Bethlehem Brew Works’ pumpkin ales. They’re almost as much fun to smell as they are to drink. Chocolate stout in winter; my favorite is Southern Tier’s Choklat from New York, like liquid dark chocolate with a kick—in a good way. IPA in spring; locally, Victory’s very hoppy Hop Devil is a favorite, but I also love Dogfish 60 Minute. Summer is for Hoegaarden, light and refreshing.
Wherever you go in this town, there’s good stuff to drink. And Philly Beer Week is a brilliant excuse to veer off your familiar routes of life and try something new.
