We love beer. That's why we're devoting an entire year to discovering (and drinking) cold ones from near and far. Know of a beer worth shouting out? Send us a note at firstname.lastname@example.org.
California, Michigan, and Oregon get all the accolades, but when it comes to top notch breweries Pennsylvania is quietly one of the best beer states in the country. Folks like Troegs are one of the reasons why. We all know about Nugget Nectar and Mad Elf, but in truth its mainstays like Troegenator rather than those specials releases that make Troegs such a great brewery. Troegenator is a double bock, a huge, malty style of beer that used to be the beverage of choice for fasting monks. It’s easy to see why. This full-bodied beer is a chewy meal of a beverage, blending rich dark breads with brown sugar, caramel, breakfast cereal and freshly baked Danish. It has plenty of warming alcohol on the way down without being outright hot, and just a hint of clove to give it a spicy finish. See why the monks rave at Barcade, Victory Beer Hall, 320 Market Café and a half-dozen other locations.
