PW's Year of Beer: Susquehanna So-Wheat

The Bavarian hefeweizen is a classic beer style that, when done right, stands out as one of the most unmistakable—and delicious—styles on the planet. Well guess what? The good folks at Pittston, PA’s Susquehanna Brewing Company does it right. The unfiltered So-Wheat is everything you expect from a Bavarian hefe. Huge aromas of potent banana and touches of bubblegum explode from the glass. The murky orange brew looks positively chewy, belying its easy drinkability. But easy drinkability certainly doesn’t mean flavorless. Lots of banana, some clove, and even a touch of peppery spice in the finish all bring to mind the classics of the style. It’s enough to make you sit up and wonder what else the folks at Susquehanna are brewing up. For now, try this at Grey Lodge and 320 Market Café.
