We love beer. That's why we're devoting an entire year to discovering (and drinking) cold ones from near and far. Know of a beer worth shouting out? Send us a note.
Right now, everything is pumpkin or pumpkin-spiced. This gives Starr Hill's entry into the world of gourd-engorged beers the timeliness factor. It’s also a porter. While other brewers tend to focus on spiced ales and marzens/Oktoberfests when making pumpkin beer, Starr Hill mixes the light pie spices and vegetal goodness of pumpkins with the sharp roast and bitter chocolate notes of an English style porter. This makes for a terrific change of pace. The spicing is minimal and the pumpkin subtle, serving to complement the soft chocolate notes of this light-bodied porter rather than overshadow the whole thing. This restraint is welcome since so many other brewers are aiming for big, Big, BIG. Give this a whirl at Institute and Bobkat Liquors.
