We love beer. That's why we're devoting an entire year to discovering (and drinking) cold ones from near and far. Know of a beer worth shouting out? Send us a note at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Sierra Nevada are one of the most important brewers in American craft beer history. Their pale ale is a landmark beer that defined American pale ales, and a host of their other brews, such as Bigfoot, are models of brewing perfection. A few years back they began a series of collaborations with the New Clairvaux abbey in Vina, Calif., creating Belgian-style ales to help raise money for the abbey. This saison is one of them, and boy is it tasty. On its own it’s a fine example of the style, with a rustic, grassy character that suggests open farmland after a spring rain. But there’s more. The addition of mandarin oranges pushes it over the top, giving it a zesty, fresh aroma and flavor that is as delicious as it is refreshing. This beer is currently on tap at Pinocchio’s—go get some.
