For some years now, the folks at Sierra Nevada have invited a select few to come take part in a week long “beer camp.” A highlight of the event is brewing a specialty beer with Sierra Nevada's brewers and seeing that beer go on tap in select locations. For the last three years, Sierra Nevada has released a few of those beers—probably to tease those of us who aren't lucky enough to attend this beer camp. One of this year's brews is Imperial Red. With big, robust malts that speak of caramel and pumpernickel and toffee, it'd be a chewy sweet beer (if it wasn't for a double IPA's worth of pungent hops). All that hopping adds intoxicating notes of citrus and pine with mango and grapefruit as the dominant aromas. It's heady stuff. Try it at Side Bar.
