We love beer. That's why we're devoting an entire year to discovering (and drinking) cold ones from near and far. Know of a beer worth shouting out? Send us a note at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Even the most loyal enthusiast of local beer would have a hard time arguing against the idea that the west coast dominates the IPA style. Most of the biggest, boldest, most trend-setting IPAs come from the left coast. But not all of them. We’ve got some great ones here, too, and Ithaca’s Flower Power is quietly one of the very best. Its terrifically light body makes the robust 7.5% ABV surprising, but you won’t have time to pay attention because you’ll be sucked in by all those amazing hops. Huge nose filled with pine, grapefruit, apricot, pineapple, and aromatic florals, this beer smells amazing. It tastes amazing, too. Light caramel and crackers provide just enough sweetness, while those hops give this beer a juicy, citrusy taste that remains perfectly balanced. Outstanding. Flower Power is on tap at over half-a-dozen places in the city, including Side Bar, Garrett Hill Ale House and Bill Murphy’s.
