We love beer. That's why we're devoting an entire year to discovering (and drinking) cold ones from near and far. Know of a beer worth shouting out? Send us a note at

Take a bunch of high-impact beers aged in high-impact booze barrels, and oy vey have you got an imposing beer on your hands. Each year the folks at He’Brew do exactly that when they create Funky Jewbelation. Some six or seven different ales are blended together, each aged for various periods in bourbon barrels or rye whiskey barrels. Absolutely none of that history is hidden, either. The aroma is filled with sweet alcohol, wood, burnt toffee, a little bit of funk, and even more alcohol. The taste offers much of the same, along with toasted figs, brandy-soaked raisins, and alcohol heat, but it also has a little something you may not expect: funky tartness in the finish. You don’t expect sourness in such a big, complex booze bomb, yet there it is!  Test out your taste buds with this highly challenging beer at (ironically enough) P.O.P.E.
