We love beer. That's why we're devoting an entire year to discovering (and drinking) cold ones from near and far. Know of a beer worth shouting out? Send us a note at firstname.lastname@example.org.
There are fruit beers, and then there is Fort. Dogfish Head built their reputation on so-called “extreme beers”—brews like 120 Minute IPA and World Wide Stout are as extreme as they get—but even by their standards Fort is an unusual one. Sam and co. make Fort using an absurd amount of raspberries and raspberry juice, but this isn’t a sweet drink by any means. The big boast here is that this is the world’s strongest fruit beer. Coming in at a robust 18 percent ABV, it will probably be one of the strongest beers you ever drink, regardless of style. An almost wine-like fruitiness greets your nose. The head dissipates quickly. Your first sip reveals intense fruit, touches of Belgian funk, and then a wash of alcohol heat. This is a beer for the dinner table and one to share with your wine-living friends. It rarely appears on tap; watch for it at places like Monk's.
