Philly Beer Week, the citywide celebration of suds we wait all year for, kicks off May 30! PW is counting down the days with Eric San Juan's daily spotlight of great craft beers everyone should get to know better.
All the insanity common in the American craft beer scene can at times being a little fatiguing, especially for those of us who are in a constant search for something new. Sometimes you just want something … well, normal. Something traditional. Well-crafted and tasty, but also familiar and comforting. A traditional English-style brown ale, perhaps? Nodding Head’s Grog, brewed right here in Philly, certainly fits the bill. Nutty sweet malts with a touch of milk chocolate, Earthy hops in the flavor and aroma, and a dry finish makes this a highly sessionable ale that is as approachable as the sweet old lady down the street. There is nothing here that is going to wear you out—it’s not a powerhouse like, say, Dogfish Head’s Indian Brown Ale—and sometimes that’s exactly what you want from a beer. See for yourself at, you guessed it, Nodding Head.
