August Mix-a-Six

Clipper City Heavy Seas Peg Leg 8 percent abv

A Russian Imperial Stout in the middle of August? It actually drinks much lighter than an imperial stout. Consider it an ode to the Baltimore Bullet. Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps has made Charm City quite proud this week. Enjoy the sweet notes of chocolate and coffee. $2.45

Oskar Blues Old Chub 8 percent abv

When I bit into the rarebit at the Memphis Taproom last May, I knew I had no intention of wearing a bikini this summer. So I can drink plenty of this canned Scottish Style Ale. Old Chub has hints of chocolate malt, caramel and smoke. It's the ultimate campfire beer. It comes conveniently in cans that are perfect to avoid oxidation and skunking. $1.80

Flying Dog Garde Dog Biere de Garde 5.5 percent abv

When your Specialized Rock Hopper has been snatched from your back patio and you can't even bike to the bar, you think about what you could've done to save the two-wheeled wonder. Drink a Flying Dog Garde Dog. It's light-bodied and refreshing with hints of pepper and citrus. Oh, and Biere de Garde means "beer for keeping." $2.70

Philadelphia Brewing Co. Kenzinger 4.5 percent abv

The perfect beer when you're clocked out and home after pulling taps all night. N.3rd Bartender Dave Marks says when his shift is done he needs some Maker's Mark and a Kenzinger. "It cools me off after a long night of pouring beers for everyone else." $2.20

Festina Peche 4.5 percent abv

It's National Peach Month. Celebrate the fuzzy fruit by the glass. Dogfish Head's current seasonal is a "neo-Berliner Weisse with peach concentrate." Tart, sour and acidic--all in a very good way. Definitely not another too-sweet fruit beer. $3.50

Petrus 7 percent abv

When you've found yourself in smoked fish taco heaven, you should hope there's a bottle of Petrus Oak Aged Pale Ale there. Petrus is St. Peter, the keeper of the Gates of Heaven. This Petrus is oaky, smoky, fresh and fragrant. One of my all-time favorites. $5.25
