PW's Year of Beer: Weyerbacher Tiny

Easton, Pa.’s Weyerbacher isn’t necessarily known for their session beers, so when they set out to make a big Belgian style stout, they make a BIG Belgian style stout with gusto. Weighing in at an impressive 11.8% ABV, this should go down with a fair bit of alcohol heat, you’d think (and you’d be wrong). This smoothness is both impressive and dangerous if you’re not pacing yourself, though! Tiny has rich notes of chocolate with hints of licorice, roasted nuts and coffee, but it lacks the astringent bitterness so common in imperial stouts (perhaps because the Belgian strain of yeast it uses gives it an earthy softness kissed by dark fruits and velvet). Pair this with cherries or strawberries at dessert and you’ll be in heaven.
