In just a few short years, The Bruery has established a reputation as one of the country’s best brewers of offbeat styles: The company’s Autumn Maple reflects this creative vision. Here they replace the pumpkins so common in autumn beers with yams (a full 17 pounds of them per barrel), toss in a mess of traditional spices and then throw in vanilla, molasses and maple syrup for good measure—all of this in the midst of a huge Belgian brown ale. The barely-there bitterness and gentle carbonation can hardly contain the impact of that syrup and molasses. The result is a creamy, powerfully sweet beer suited for any holiday dinner table. It’s only available once a year, so get it at Churchville Inn while you still can.
