We love beer. That's why we're devoting an entire year to discovering (and drinking) cold ones from near and far. Know of a beer worth shouting out? Send us a note at tips@philadelphiaweekly.com.

Yes, by now the so-called “Session IPA” is officially a trend. Entries by Founders, Stone, Firestone Walker and others have proven popular with craft drinkers who want something bold and hoppy yet low enough in alcohol to drink while out enjoying an active day. No wonder folks like Terrapin are throwing their hat in the ring. The question is if they do it well—and in Terrapin’s case, they do. RecreationAle drinks stupid smooth and easy, with just enough hop bite to be crisp and interesting yet avoiding the unfortunate trend of session IPAs to be nothing more than a hop delivery vehicle. On draft this beer has fine notes of pine and bready malts, from the can it tastes like a mouthful of summer. You will find the balance perfect at City Tap House.
