So the legend goes like this: A German pub owner, in an effort to boost business, had a bike trail constructed that led to his pub’s door. It worked too well, and thousands of bicyclists swarmed his place, more than he could manage. Lacking beer enough to serve them all, he mixed the beer 50/50 with lemonade, which in Europe is carbonated like soda. He not only met demand, he birthed the radler, which literally means “cyclist” in German. Whether or not this story is true can never be verified, but what CAN be verified is that radlers and shandies (essentially the same thing) are trending big right now. Sam Adams throws its hat in the ring with Porch Rocker, a radler that isn’t nearly the sickly sweet sugar bomb of other brews (we won't name names). This is crazy delicious, like a lemon-blasted golden blonde. This isn’t another hard lemonade, it’s its own thing. And for a blazing hot day drink, it’s perfect.
