PW's Year of Beer: Oskar Blues Old Chub

Scotland can be a cold and windy place, so Scotch ales are typically good at keeping you warm.  Old Chub is one of these warming Scotch ales, a sweet, smoky, potent beer with layers of flavor and plenty of alcohol warmth. The beer pours a deep ruby color with a fat, frothy white head, and it kicks up aromas of dark breads, tobacco, a touch of chocolate and booze (of course). The taste communicates just as much as the pour, with the addition of dark fruit (including plums, dried cherries and figs) swimming in the ale, too. Old Chub has a slight smokiness that is not as pronounced as some Scotch ales, but it’s enough to add a musky complexity to the brew. It’s easy to ignore a cold wind when you have a few of these in you! Try it at City Tap House, Doobies Bar, Sidecar, Jolly’s and Khyber Pass Pub.
