We love beer. That's why we're devoting an entire year to discovering (and drinking) cold ones from near and far. Know of a beer worth shouting out? Send us a note at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Here’s another in a long line of new Pennsylvania breweries. The folks at Helltown are based out of Mt. Pleasant, and their beers are already making their way into the Philly beer scene. Rapture is an American style IPA, which means big hops and big aromas. They offer some welcome balance in sweet caramel malts, too—you can even get them in the aroma—so don’t expect nothing more than a bitter bomb from Rapture. This beer boasts some complexity. The hop hit you get on that first sip is laced with pine, tropical fruit, a bit of citrus, and yet more pine, then finishes with a kiss of sweetness that lingers for just a bit. That balance between juicy hops (you’ll get apricot, grapefruit and more) and caramel sweetness is perfectly done. Watch out for these guys! In the meantime, Rapture is available at Side Bar and The Cambridge.
