We love beer. That's why we're devoting an entire year to discovering (and drinking) cold ones from near and far. Know of a beer worth shouting out? Send us a note at firstname.lastname@example.org.
This inky black brew by the folks at Great Lakes is aptly named. It’s a glass of midnight at the new moon. A glimpse into a night sky with no stars. They boast that this imperial stout is highly hopped, but sweetness dominates the initial taste, with heady notes of licorice and molasses stealing the show. Touches of coffee roast and alcohol burn through the sweetness before the hops make their appearance in the finish, finally allowing some bitterness to tame all those roasted malts. The body is thick to the point of being chewy. Great Lakes are known for their excellent traditional beers, but don’t exactly have a reputation for monster beers. This one may help change that perception. It’s on tap right now at Monk’s, so go get some before it’s rotated out.
