Some beers are more than beers, they are events worth marking on the calendar. And, each January, beer geeks scramble to be among those lucky enough to snag some of Bell’s intensely delicious double IPA. The name “Hopslam” is accurate, to say the least, as this 10 percent monster of an ale packs a huge hop wallop in both the aroma and flavor. Massive grapefruit, tangerine and floral characteristics catch your nose from across the table. Bell’s dials things up a notch by adding a generous dose of honey to this beer, giving it a soft, herbal sweetness that helps rein in all those hops. The result is a ridiculously drinkable beer, given how huge in flavor (and alcohol content) it is. Hopslam hits the Philadelphia region this week!

We love beer. That's why we're devoting an entire year to discovering (and drinking) cold ones from near and far. Know of a beer worth shouting out? Send us a note at tips@philadelphiaweekly.com.
