We love beer. That's why we're devoting an entire year to discovering (and drinking) cold ones from near and far. Know of a beer worth shouting out? Send us a note at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The black IPA has been trending upwards the last few years, and beers like Back in Black by California’s 21st Amendment are a big reason why. Mixing the brisk hoppyness of an IPA with the roasted dark malts of a stout or porter, this hybrid style is admittedly something of an acquired taste, but once converted you’ll find a lot to love. The aroma hits all the right IPA buttons—lots of floral citrus and pine—but with the addition of rich roasted malts. The taste is much the same, but with those roasted malts taking a more prominent role. Hints of chocolate and sweetened coffee round out the edges and give this bitter brew a fullness not often found in an India Pale Ale. Simply delicious. Try it at Boot & Saddle.
