If you’ve been following PW’s daily Year of Beer series online at philadelphiaweekly.com, where our brew-savvy correspondent Eric San Juan has spent the past 12 months recommending a different craft beer every day, you’re aware by now that we’re in the home stretch leading up to Philly Beer Week, which kicks off on Fri., May 30. Here’s the trick, though: There are a number of early preview celebrations getting started before PBW’s big Opening Tap extravaganza. So you can put these sneak-peek-the-night-before events on your calendar for Thurs., May 29, and file them under “Beer Week Eve”: the For Pete’s Sake Pub Luau (6pm-midnight, 900 S. Front St.), featuring pineapple beer, hula skirts and tropical food; Unibroue Maudite Midnight Madness at Devil’s Den (7pm-midnight, 1148 S. 11th St.), featuring glassware giveaways with Unibroue’s decadently brewed and bottled beverages such as Ephemere Apple and La Fin Du Monde; and Liquor Before Beer (Week) at Johnny Brenda’s (8pm-midnight, 1201 Frankford Ave.), where local artisan spiritmakers Art in the Age will team up with the brewers of Dock Street to present fine beer cocktails alongside music and more. For more pre-Philly Beer Week events, check out the ever-growing calendar at phillybeerweek.org.
