Welcome to PW's 50-Beer Countdown to Philly Beer Week! Every day from now through the Opening Tap ceremonies on May 31, we'll be getting in the mood by spotlighting a different great craft brew that's been poured by one or more Philly Beer Week participating venues.
The craft beer revolution has been great in about a dozen different ways, but it has lacked in one major respect: providing tasty beers that are still low enough in alcohol that you can drink them all day. While the average ABV for beer is about 4.5 percent, among craft beer the average ABV of new beers is over 6 percent and approaching 7 percent. You’re not going to be throwing horseshoes all day at a BBQ drinking 7 percent beers! Founders addresses that with All Day IPA, a bright, hoppy brew that comes in at a modest 4.7 percent ABV — less than a Budwesier! Despite that very approachable alcohol level, it has plenty of taste. Nice aromas of tangerines and mango and a hint of pine lead into a just-bitter-enough brew that won’t insult your beertelligence, yet which will still let you drink until the last horseshoe is thrown. Founders All Day IPA is sometimes available at Grace Tavern, Jose Pistola’s, TIME, Kite & Key, The Industry, and elsewhere.
