Philly Beer Week, the citywide celebration of suds we wait all year for, kicks off May 30! PW is counting down the days with Eric San Juan's daily spotlight of great craft beers everyone should get to know better.
While Flying Fish, Carton and Kane have gotten all the press, breweries like Boaks have filled out the New Jersey brewing scene quite nicely. Two Blind Monks is their take on an Abbey Dubbel, and it’s a pleasantly drinkable take on the style. Caramel, raisin, burnt toffee and a hint of sweet cherries dominate the flavor. It lacks the heavy sweet malts you might expect, giving this beer a lighter body than many of its compatriots and lending it an easy drinkability. Look for light chocolate and toasted nuts in the sweet finish, but don’t forget to pair this one with a meal. It drinks best that way, especially a dish with cream sauces.
