Big Teeth brings its signature work, Ordinary Creatures, to Philadelphia’s Secret Circus on Friday, July 19. The Vermont-based group weaves contemporary dance with acrobatic partnering, physical theater, and aerial arts in a seamless, genre-defying investigation of monstrosity. Clutching the vestiges of their humanity as they embody machines, werewolves, zombies, and giant bugs, five performers journey toward the feral and surreal, struggling all the while with undergarments and the rules of gravity. Think all the wow of Cirque du Soleil’s physical feats, but up close and personal, darker, and with an indie art ethos.

This performance, part of Big Teeth’s second multi-state tour of Ordinary Creatures, will be preceded by opening acts featuring students of Secret Circus. Doors open at 7:00 for the 7:30 show. Tickets ($18-24) are available online via Brown Paper Tickets ( or at the door (cash only).
