Above & Beyond: JFK and America’s Most Dangerous Spy Mission, co-authored by Michael Tougias chronicles the thirteen harrowing days of the Cuban Missile Crisis, outlining the crucial steps President Kennedy made to reach a decision on a course of action to prevent a nuclear disaster. The story told gives special emphasis to the heroes of the crisis: the U-2 pilots who flew unarmed over Cuba to secure the photographic proof that the Soviets were installing nuclear missiles on the island. These pilots helped President Kennedy achieve a difficult objective, have the nuclear missiles removed from Cuba without triggering Armageddon. Tougias will reveal four lesser known events that occurred during the crisis.  One was the shoot-down by the Soviets of U-2 Pilot Major Rudy Anderson. This superbly written and tense account views the Cuban Missile Crisis from an unusual and telling perspective.
