STONER THRASH

The category that’ll easily be the loudest has a few killer contenders: Dinosaur Jr.’ s brand new I Bet on Sky will be boss, and so will a new and much-anticipated Soundgarden effort, King Animal, due Nov. 13. They’ve got the original lineup back together and, hopefully, there’ll be a dozen new “Black Hole Sun”-type tracks. And it’d be a bit of a stretch to put them in our Philly Folks category, but New Jersey natives Titus Andronicus should knock our socks off with their third, Local Business, out on Oct. 23.
Honorable mention: Black Moth Super Rainbow, Cobra Juicy (Oct. 9), Coheed And Cambria, The Afterman: Ascension (Oct. 9); Ty Segall, Twins (Oct. 9); And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead, Lost Songs (Oct. 23)
OH, REALLY?
This category is just all kinds of strange. There are just too many random records coming out not to get a little shout. Like Pinback . They’ve got one called Information Retrieved comin’ out Oct. 16, their fifth proper LP and first in five years. Two weird girls who we refuse to put in the Strong Women category will try to out-sing each other: Taylor Swift and Christina Aguilera (Xtina’s got this), plus the old gals Barbra Streisand and Celine Dion will give us new ones. Speaking of old folks, guess who else seems to be honestly titling their new record GRRR!? Yeah, the Rolling Stones . Baby, get out your red lips t-shirt for Nov. 13.
Honorable mention: Anita Baker, Only Forever (Sept. 25); Mika, The Origin Of Love (Oct. 16); Papa Roach, The Connection (Oct. 2); Diamond Rings, Free Dimensional (Oct. 23); One Direction, Take Me Home (Nov. 13)
Let’s face it: The time for summer lovin’ is over. But hey, who needs to fall in love when there’s so much to love in fall? We've got recommendations for beer & food events, books, concerts, theater and more.
