Get your costumes on.

Probably more than any other holiday, Halloween encourages that creative thought be kicked into high gear — and in many cases to run amok and become completely twisted. For kids, of course, Halloween’s main objective is to collect enough candy to last until the following fall, but for grownups it’s often to activate the imaginative ‘wow’ factor, or to foster remarks like “What were you smoking when you got that getup together?”

The catalyst for these costumes are often celebrities who got themselves into compromising situations, or regular people who put themselves in perplexing predicaments like last year’s “Octomom.” Whatever the case, you’re bound to see some Halloween ensembles that will help keep the water-cooler conversations lively. Options are abundant in these parts, as the Atlantic City area could rank as a perennial contender for national Halloween party headquarters. Below are some suggestions.

In the Casinos

At the Trump Taj Mahal’s Ego Bar & Lounge, there’s a party starting 6pm Saturday, Oct. 31, that has prize-money potential up to $1,000, and will feature the ultra-seductive, all-female song-and-dance troupe The Angels. Register at any Trump Rewards Center kiosk from noon-5:50pm on Halloween day. There will also be chances for prizes from $100 to $500 at Ego.

Billed as the “hottest Halloween party on the Boardwalk,” the Casbah Nightclub will feature a cauldron of fun including music by DJ Girl 6 and thousands of dollars in prize money. Costume contest categories will consist of most original, scariest, sexiest couple, sexiest man, and hottest girl. The party starts 10:30pm. Also at the Taj, the Hard Rock Cafe presents JSE Rocks (102.7 FM) and The Shark’s (103.7 FM) annual Halloween costume party on Friday, Oct. 30, starting 9pm. The band No Pressure will perform, there will be a free buffet, and best-costume prizes will earn $750 for first place, $250 for second and $100 for third. There will be a live radio feed from JSE, and all proceeds from a $5 cover charge will benefit the Shirley Mae Breast Cancer Assistance Fund. The Crystal Head Vodka party will take place at The Wave at Trump Marina on Saturday night. Top prize will be a $500 gift card, second prize will be an overnight stay at Trump Marina, and third prize will be a gourmet dinner for two. Sensational party band Don’t Call Me Francis will be performing from 9pm-3am.

Dusk nightclub at Caesars is hosting two parties — its Mischief Night Red Party on Friday from 10pm-4am, and its “I Dream of Audrina” Halloween Party on Saturday from 10pm-4am. Anyone who wears red to the Friday party will receive complimentary admission, and DJ Royale will entertain. Audrina Partridge (of the MTV show The Hills) will host the Saturday party, and DJ Marshal Barnes will entertain.

The Borgata has action at all three of its nightlife venues on Halloween night. Playboy-themed parties will take place at Gypsy Bar, Mixx and mur.mur, and former Playboy Playmate Shannon James (Miss May 2007) will guest host all three. Music will be provided by the bands Lost In Paris and Dead Poets at Gypsy Bar, DJ Irie at Mixx, and D-Nice at mur.mur. A $1,000 cash prize will be awarded to the best costume in each nightlife venue, and Borgata Nightlife Rewards members (free to sign up) could win a trip to Los Angeles featuring a tour of the Playboy Mansion. On Monday, Nov. 2, mur.mur will be holding a special Halloween party for service-industry employees, with music by DJ Ruckus.

The Tropicana has a plethora of Halloween activity taking place at 12 different locations. Providence nightclub will host a special costume contest on Thursday, Oct. 29, featuring prizes for scariest, sexiest and funniest categories. To win, participants must present their IN Card, which can be obtained free. Prizes will include scariest (a $1,000 Tropicana prize package), sexiest ($500 bottle service) and funniest ($500 bottle service). Fiesta Plaza in The Quarter will present its third annual Halloween Costume Contest starting 11pm for all IN Card and Diamond Club cardholders. The contest will feature three categories: best overall, scariest and best group. The grand prize will be a $500 gift card. On Friday and Saturday (Oct. 30-31), the IMAX Theater will be hosting a special showing of The Omen at 10pm followed by Damian: The Omen II at midnight both nights. Tickets are $10 per movie or $15 for both showings on the same night. Rumba and Tango’s lounges will each offer a specialty cocktail called the Pumpkin Eater for $8.50 all weekend long. Additional Trop Halloween parties will take place at A Dam Good Sports Bar (a $666 cash-prize costume contest), Carmine’s (featuring the Smashing Pumpkin martini), Corky’s (four drink specials including the Grateful Dead, Jager Monster, Green Demon and Pumpkin Pie martini), Cuba Libre (half-priced V2 Vodka and Miller Lite bottles, 11pm-1am), 32 Degrees (half-priced cocktails and Miller Lite, $150 VIP bottle service), Planet Rose Karaoke Bar (“Scaryoke” party with drink specials), Firewaters ($666 cash prize) and Hooters ($666 cash prize).

The Booo-gie Nights II costume party on the dining level of Resorts will happen Friday and Saturday at the retro nightclub Boogie Nights starting 9pm each night. Friday will be a themed masquerade party, and Saturday’s shindig will be a vampire-themed costume party. Thousands of dollars in prizes will be given away by Resorts and WAYV 95.1 FM radio.

At Club Worship inside Showboat’s House of Blues, the Extreme Halloween Party will feature a live performance by the Drag Queens & Drag Kings, no cover charge from 10pm-4am, drink specials all night, and prizes for best costumes.

The Ridge nightclub at Bally’s will host the Wild & Wicked party Saturday night from 9pm-2am with MC Maria and DJ Teddy.

The Pool at Harrah’s will host an appearance by three cast members of the vampire-based Twilight film series — Edi Gathegi, Chaske Spencer and Alex Meraz — in addition to a $1,000-grand-prize costume contest. Doors open 10pm Saturday.

Also in Atlantic City

The Chelsea hotel will be transformed into the Haunted Hotel on Saturday night, as abundant activity will be taking place throughout the hotel’s multiple bars and lounges. Chelsea’s Angels — sexy supermodels DJ Adi, Nelly Munz, and Cassie Stevens — will host a party that will take place on two levels and encompass over 15,000 square feet. DJ Los and DJ Jockmo Beatz will spin hits, there will be an array of surprise performances, and a costume contest will have prizes worth up to $5,000. Admission includes a complimentary Halloween-tini.
