Pride and Prejudice and Kitties
By Jane Austen, Pamela Jane and Deborah Guyol (Skyhorse Publishing)
In summary: Obviously taking cues from its Philly-spawned, zombie-filled brethren, Pride and Prejudice and Kitties transforms all of the characters into cats, rewriting and shortening Austen’s language to reflect the activities of a household pet. The sheer number of puns and time spent reminding the readers that the characters are cats is exhausting. The Photoshopped images of cats in weird poses wearing Regency-era nonsense with macro text on almost every other page were the best part of reading this acid-laden idea of a book.
Akin to: Ecce Homo after the Gimenez restoration.
Author fun fact: The two writers who aren’t famous for creating lasting works of fiction met in high school.
