Ruins
Drummer Tatsuya Yoshida wore out four bass players in his quest for punk-prog-jazz-noise ecstasies, though not before laying the groundwork for Lightning Bolt, inspiring Mike Patton and collaborating with everyone from the Boredoms to Derek Bailey to Keiji Hano. He now performs alone as Ruins, just a drummer, but one who more or less re-invents the concept moment to moment. A sweaty, physical, yet oddly cerebral improviser, he batters intricate multi-textured rhythms on the kit, while simultaneously shouting, crooning, moaning and managing a bank of looped instrumental sounds. This is less like an evening of solo drumming than a controlled explosion in a Buddhist temple—visceral, precise and spiritually riveting. -Jennifer Kelly

“MY HEAD IS IN MY HANDS
Martin McDonagh's play is titled A BEHANDING IN SPOKANE, not A BEHEADING..., as you call it more than once. Nor, as I remember, is it clear that the play is set in Ohio.”
