What do you do when the gentrifiers come? Some people fight. Others move out. Lifelong Fishtowner Jeff Kilpatrick draws. "It originally started as a street art project, just to remind all the new people moving in what was already going on here," the cartoonist says. "And also to remind a lot of the people thinking of moving out of the neighborhood what was here that they loved in the first place." What began as street fliers highlighting Fishtown history, neighbors and factoids has now been compiled into a book, which comes free with admission to this release party. In addition to food from Liberties Restaurant and drinks from PBR, Fishtown Beverage and Philadelphia Brewing Company, the event includes Big Mike's Quizzo, raffles, music and more. "I didn't want to use the phrase 'beef and beer,' because a lot of the newcomers are still alienated by that," Kilpatrick says. "I'm hoping this brings people together." (Jeffrey Barg)
