J. Karma

"I started with a store on South Street about 14 years ago. It was called Ethnics. All of our stuff came from Indonesia. My partner and I had spent some time in Bali, saw how great their jewelry was and decided to sell it here. I ended up closing the jewelry store and opening J. Karma in Old City. I kept all of my Ethnics jewelry and expanded to what I really love, which is shoes and handbags. This store is basically more of a women's boutique. I think the most important thing is that something is wearable. I like stuff that's trendy, but I also like it to be wearable and very accessible. The new trend is purple, which is great. I think it's a rarely used color and it's nice to punch up an outfit with a great bright color. My customers range from college girls to mature women. I basically have something for everyone here. I have stuff that appeals to the 22-year-old and the 62-year-old at the same time."
