[SUNDAY, SEPT. 1]
Co-organized by Bardo Pond drummer Ed Farnsworth, Tracey Stanton of the 700 Club and Dot Dash Records, the Second Annual Northern Liberties Music Festival will benefit Liberty Lands, a park owned by the community, and more or less coincide with the first anniversary of Dot Dash. Farnsworth has recruited a refreshing mix of acts, each boasting at least one member from the neighborhood. Expect alt-country from Wobbly and Naked Omaha, frightening art-jazz-noise theatrics from Need New Body, chamber folk from the Trouble with Sweeney, '60s fuzz from the Photon Band, old-school indie-folk sludge from Strapping Fieldhands, neo-metal exhibitionism from Wastoid and heady psych from Bardo Pond (pictured)--all dispensed in easily digestible half-hour sets. Closing the event will be the Northern Liberties Dance Band, a tongue-in-cheek act covering local rock heroes of decades past. While the festival is free, food sales and donations will raise money for the park. Among various donors, Club Egypt will supply a stage, Festival Catering will lend propane grills and Chiamicello's will be in charge of food. Farnsworth would like to see next year's installment run for two days, but until then, come out and show your support for this one. (Doug Wallen)
