Jodi just wanted her daughter to be “one less” woman affected by cervical cancer. But right after getting a second Gardasil vaccine, Victoria got sick and now suffers paralysis, seizures and other symptoms that are so taxing she can no longer attend school. While the FDA, CDC and Merck insist upon the vaccine’s safety, Jodi, Victoria and other moms and daughters say it shot them straight to “GardaHell.”

Tragedy, as they say, is easy; comedy is hard. Indeed, it’s nearly impossible to describe exactly what’s wrong with The Hangover, a raucous farce whose belly laughs are forever just out of reach. There’s so much going for it, too: a clever idea, a script that knows the value of withholding vital information, a plethora of genuinely imaginative comic ideas and performances that, while not top-notch, are far from unfunny.

You don’t need to bone up on three-to-four decades of dense Italian politics before consuming the sordid biopic Il Divo. But it helps. Concerning Giulio Andreotti—the crooked and much-connected three-time prime minister, lifetime senator and all-around scoundrel—Paolo Sorrentino’s keyed-up biopic is constantly chucking names, titles and bloody bodies your way. To Italians, presumably, this is everyday news; think of it as their version of Oliver Stone’s W.
Any time anyone I’ve ever known has gotten a pizza at Dock Street Brewery in West Philly, it’s been burnt on the bottom. Without fail. Bar none. Batting 1,000. Methinks they need to give the bottom of the oven a good scrubbin’, and that’ll handle that. But no matter. Despite the burnt bits, we keep going back.
