This is a story about dignity. I used to think I knew exactly how I’d respond in moments like these. I’d be like Cary Grant in 'His Girl Friday': Pithy, sophisticated, dryly witty and unflappably handsome. But, in fact, every time I’ve faced real-life drama I’ve been more like Ben Stiller at the end of 'There’s Something About Mary': running down the road screaming, flapping my arms, blubbing like a baby. Which is what I’m doing now.

Panic Years

The Panic Years’ Amy Miller and Ed Everett put all their eggs in one basket, and moved to Philly from Virginia Beach, Va., six months ago with the sole intention of restarting their band and (hopefully) making it big. “We wanted to move to a big city with a lot of venues to play, and be close to lots of other cities,” guitarist Miller explains, saying they even picked Philly over Portland, Ore.

There are more than 120 features playing at this year’s Philadelphia Film Festival/CineFest 09, a large number of them in week two. In the interest of originality, we’re going to borrow an idea from The Morning News.org’s Paul Ford, who came up with the Six-Word Review for SXSW—the best way to deal with having to write about 763 bands. Surely this can work for cinema, too.
